Somatic Experiencing

What is Somatic Experiencing (SE™)?

Somatic Experiencing (SE™) is a body-based psychotherapy grounded in continuously evolving research evidence. SE™ Practitioners study for a minimum of 3 years, including attending multiple hours of case consultations and personal SE™ therapy sessions.

Is Somatic Experiencing (SE™) right for me?

SE™ teaches that trauma grows from a single moment of perceived threat (car accident, medical procedures, assault and/or abuse, witnessing traumatic events, war, birth trauma, etc.) to a chronic state of stress and living in survival-mode. As a body-oriented psychotherapy, SE™ works with your nervous system to support a gradual transition from a disorganized nervous system stuck in a chronic state of fight, flight, or freeze, to an organized nervous system that is flexible and adapts to the environment. The end result is a feeling of increased resilience and decreased overwhelm.

What is a Somatic Experiencing (SE™) session like?

SE™ differs from traditional psychotherapy because it doesn’t rely on talking about your problems as a source of healing. Instead, your SE™ Practitioner provides guidance and support in connecting you with your nervous system to promote your capacity to track your own internal responses for the purpose of safely and gently re-experiencing and re-organizing the traumatic event. In other words, SE™ helps you release the trauma that became stuck in your body during the stressful incident.
