Adrienne Martens, MSW RSW

"But where do we even start on the daily walk of restoration and awakening? We start where we are." – Anne Lamott

Adrienne is a Registered Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). Adrienne completed a Master of Theological Studies in International and Urban Development from Wycliffe College, University of Toronto, and completed her Master of Social Work from Wilfred Laurier University.

Adrienne has over thirteen years of experience working in both community-based and healthcare settings in front-line (community outreach, advocacy work, crisis intervention) and clinical (psychotherapist) roles. Adrienne also has extensive experience working in residential programs, supporting individuals with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorders.

For years Adrienne has had the honor of providing psychotherapy services to individuals in First Responder vocations, Veterans and active-duty Military Members, in both residential programs and community-based contexts. Adrienne also has experience working with a variety of individuals who are impacted by: psychological trauma, addiction, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, anger management and communication difficulties.

Adrienne works from a strengths-based, anti-oppressive, attachment & trauma-informed lens in her work. While Adrienne provides a variety of evidence-based interventions, she has a particular focus on trauma re-processing work through use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) coupled with Somatic, Mindfulness and Internal Family Systems (IFS) interventions.

Although the journey of healing comes with many ups and downs, rarely occurring in a straight line, Adrienne firmly believes that recovery and healing is possible, and she holds hope with individuals she works with. Adrienne aims to meet individuals where they are at in their lives & and works collaboratively to create a holistic treatment plan that supports all aspects of who they are.

"Bodies and souls are fed. Bones and lives heal. New blades of grass grow from charred soil. The sun rises.”
