Do I need a referral for your services?

No - If you’re an adult over 18, give us a call or email to discuss your concerns further so that we can determine how we can best meet your needs.

What can I expect when I come to my first session?

At HISELER, KELLY & ASSOCIATES you can expect a warm, professional, and confidential space to discuss your concerns. First, we will review our privacy and confidentiality policies and answer any questions you may have. If you are seeing us for treatment services we will listen to you, gather background information, help you with goal setting, and support you in becoming comfortable with the therapeutic process. This might include having you complete questionnaires that can help us fully understand your thoughts/feelings/behaviors, come to potential diagnoses, develop a specialized treatment plan, and establish a baseline to track your progress throughout treatment.  Treatment sessions are normally 50 minutes in length.

If you are coming for a psychological assessment, the length and content of the first session is dependent on the type of assessment you are seeking. We may meet with you on more than one occasion and will likely have you complete comprehensive psychological measures in order to better answer the referral question. More of what you can expect during your assessment process will be answered when you book your appointment.

How much do your services cost?

Psychological services are NOT covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan(OHIP) .

The Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) sets a standard hourly rate for psychological services. However, HISELER, KELLY & ASSOCIATES may negotiate a different rate based on the type of service being requested. Rates for psychological services are different for individual therapy versus assessments, and whether the service is general clinical or a specialized forensics matter.

If eligible, third party payers can cover the cost of your treatment with a registered psychologist.  These options can include:

  • Extended health care benefits
  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board
  • Canadian Forces
  • Veterans Affairs Canada
  • First Nations Health Care
  • Criminal Injuries Compensation Board
  • Legal representative, or Legal Aid

If you are not eligible for the above, you can pay for the cost of your services by cash, cheque, e-transfer, or credit card.

Payment is required at the time of service. For psychological assessments, instalments for the payment of services can be negotiated.

There is a $100 fee for cheques with insufficient funds.

After payment, you will be provided with a receipt that you can submit for reimbursement through your extended health coverage or claim the medical expense on your income tax.

Should you have additional questions regarding payment please feel free to contact us to discuss further.

What happens if I need to miss a session?

At HISELER, KELLY & ASSOCIATES we require 24 hours notice when it comes to cancelling a session. Missed appointments may include no shows and cancellations with insufficient notice. Missed appointments may require full payment of fees which will be determined by each individual psychologist.

What are your office hours?

HISELER, KELLY & ASSOCIATES offer services by appointment only. Our availability includes daytime, evening, and some Saturday appointments.

Is your building accessible?

We are located on the second floor of a downtown commercial space, which does not have elevator access. If anyone requires an accessible space for their sessions we have made arrangements with a local church which has a confidential space in which to have your session. Please let us know your accommodation needs when booking your first appointment.

When I arrive, where can I park or how do I get there by public transportation?

By car: There is ample street parking in downtown Peterborough as well as some city lots. Please note that parking is $1.25 per hour in the city.

By transit: Peterborough Transit city buses have stops just outside our office on Hunter Street.  We are also located a few blocks from the main bus station.
